Life Lately (in pictures)

Yay for summer.....but life is busy! I'm seriously thinking about throwing a taxi sign on the ol' van because sometimes that's what I feel like. Nate is keeping me going with summer football practice and games. We're gearing up for VBS at church...I'm trying to get Abby to the weekly play date since she loves her little friends so much. We are also trying to have FUN this summer as a family. It can be really hard to sneak it all in. So, I'm sorry I haven't had much time to update the ol' blog, but here are a few pictures of whats been going on in our lives lately...

Abby ready to spend the day by the pool. I love that if I have my hat and cover up on....she has to have hers on too. Its cute to see her mimic me so much...and a great reminder to watch what I say! She doesn't miss anything! : /

Sweet afternoon naps outside! Love these!!

I harvested my carrots out of the garden this weekend! Ignore my mess in the started storming on me so I had to wash everything in the sink...I had grass/dirt EVERYWHERE!

Nate has definitely gotten to the age of being too cool for....everything! I'm so thankful he still has these playful moments of just being a kid! He's growing up so makes me want to push the pause button. He's also such a great big brother. ...even though as I speak type he is yelling at her to be quite so he can hear his movie...he really does love her and she thinks he hung the moon...even when he's yelling! ;)

Loving the cupcakes at a sweet friends birthday party!

My clock this morning as I was dropping Nate off at football practice. Didn't exactly see my summer morning starting at 5:45a three days a week...but thankful I have the time off to be able to shuttle him around this summer. Of course this is the first day of football from 2-4p...and baseball from 6-8p. After I get a few days like this one under my belt I may be begging to go back to work! ;)

My dad and I took the kids fishing this weekend. It was a beautiful day and Abby even managed to catch her first fish..with a little lot of help from my dad. I have such great memories of going fishing my grandad. I hope she's as close to her Papa as I was to mine.

That's all I've got for now...gotta go make lunch...get Abby a nap...and Nate off to basketball! Busy, busy....but I LOVE it! :)

What have you been up to lately?

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

Happy Memorial Day!!!

I made it! Today was Nate's last day of school and summer has officially begun in our house. Wahoo! I think I may be more excited than Nate. We've been so busy with school and baseball I'm really looking forward to the much slower pace of summer.

I can't wait for lots of pool cream sundaes....watermelon....and lots of time with my kiddos (I may be ready to choke them in a couple of weeks after being with them 24/7!).

Happy SUMMER!! Whats your favorite thing about summer?

Summer Fun List

I can't believe the summer is upon us! I have to admit...I'm a little worried of how its going to go with both kids home for this length of time. The age difference can be difficult to find activities both kids enjoy. I've put together a little Summer Fun List as a go-to for those 'I'm bored' days.

I've only have a couple more years where I can do these things with Nate before he thinks he is too cool. I also want to sneak in some activities that will help him as he gets older. We'll see how it goes.

I've also been working on a Family Summer Bucket List....more on that later....

Do you guys have a summer fun list?

Fishing Themed Half Bath

Let me start by saying that I am not one for 'themed' rooms. Its just not me. However, this is for our pool house, so I'm thinking I can get by with it in there?!? It was a quick fix, but its perfect for keeping people in wet bathing suits out of my house. ;)

I found this cute anchor at Hobby Lobby.....once pictures suck...working with what I got. ;)

I spray painted the ceiling a dark blue and put up a fishing net. I put shells and fishing lures in the net.

I made the sink skirt out of an cafe style curtain I had on hand.

I bought 5 yards of red burlap and stapled it to the wall. You can tell by this picture that its not perfect but it was a cheap, quick fix that really livens up the space. And I just couldn't pass up the fly fishing basket to hold the toilet paper! :)

I know themed rooms aren't for everyone but I'm happy with how our little bathroom turned out. Have you or would you ever decorate a room with a theme??

A Different Kind of Yarn Wreath

I've been loving the yarn wreaths I've been seeing on Pinterest lately. While I drooled over the one above....I knew I wouldn't have the patience to sit down and make one.

Last week I was flipping through my latest Pottery Barn Kids catalogue and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it.
I couldn't find this picture on their website...sorry for the bad photo!

I LOVE the life preserver! How cute is that?! Since it wasn't for sale, I decided to try my craftiness out and make my own. I couldn't find any thick butchers twine, but I did find some pretty blue rope in the boating section of the Sporting Goods department at Wal-Mart. It was $3.67 for 50 ft of rope! :)

I ended up using piping from the fabric section in Hobby Lobby to go with my blue rope. It was .29/yd!! I knew I wouldn't find anything cheaper and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Its the perfect little addition to our pool house door. :)  According to everyones pins...I'm not the only one swooning over yarn wreaths. Have you ever made one?

To Do List

I'm one of those people who make lists all.the.time. It brings me great joy to mark something off of my to do list (yes...I'm weird). The year we moved in our house, I made a 'House Projects' list. It was huge...daunting! I've continued making project lists every year. Updating what we've done and adding new things along the way. Every year I'm overwhelmed by what all we have to do....its the never ending list! Living on a budget can make it feel as though you aren't making much progress. However....its so so awesome to look at old project lists and see how far we've come!

Then there are those projects that seem to make it on the list every year....the ones that seem like they will never get done....

This piece of fence has been on our to do list for over 3 years now.....

I'm a happy girl getting this one marked off. Its not a huge project, but its done and gives us so much more privacy around the pool.

This was the only picture I could find of our retaining wall...its an old picture, but you get the idea.

We've also wanted to resurface our retaining wall with a stone. That just wasn't in the budget this year, so we decided to give it a new paint job in the meantime....

Not the best of pictures...the sun wasn't working in my favor this morning.

At some point, I'm sure we will add the stone to it to give it the look we want, but for now...I'm really happy with how much better it looks.

Next up on the to do list...a new roof! Its another one we've had on the list since we moved here. They are coming in two weeks to replace it and I am beyond thrilled!

Do you guys have a project list for your house? Am I the only one that gets giddy when I can mark things off?!?
